The Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Privilege Card is a new card from Scotiabank. Not to be confused with the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite card. This card has the title “privilege” and it’s supposed to be a cut above the rest.
Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Privilege Card Review
Right now, there is a welcome bonus that ends on Novemer 1, 2026
With this welcome bonus, you could get up to 80,000 Scene+ points which is worth around $800.
Here are the details:
- Earn 30,000 Scene+ by making at least $3000 in purchases in the first three months
- Earn another 30,000 Scene+ points by spending at least $20,000 in the first year
- Earn an additional 20,000 Scene+ points by making a purchase after the annual fee is posted
The earnings rate is as follows- it’s not that great unless you book travel through the card.
- 2x points on dining and entertainment
- 1x Scene+ point son everything else
- 3x Scene+ points on travel and and extra 3x the Scene+ point booked through Scene+ Travel, powered by Expedia (so this becomes about 6x the points if you book through the portal)
Passport Visa Infinite Privilege Benefits
There are a number of benefits for this high status credit card:
Airport lounge access. I love lounge access. This card provides 10 annual airport lounge access per year via the Visa Airport Companion program.
$250 Travel credit. There is a $250 travel credit annually if you book your travel on Scene+ Travel, Powered by Expedia. This $250 travel credit can be used for flights, hotels, car rentals, or travel packages (for example, tours).
No foreign exchange fee. There is no foreign currency exchange fee (normally it’s a 2.5% mark up from the exchange rate) and this is shared with many of the rest of Scotia’s credit cards.
Enhanced experience at certain luxury hotel properties. At Relais & Châteaux properties there are premium benefits like a free upgrade, free breakfast, VIP welcome (for example free champagne). There are Relais & Châteaux all around the world, including ones on Salt Spring Island and the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino, here in British Columbia.
Upgrades with Visa Luxury Hotel Collection. Over 900 hotels available for free upgrade, free breakfast, $25 food and beverage voucher, free Internet, and late check out if available.
Avis President’s Club membership. You can get a 2 car class upgrade for free and also skip the line (oh those Avis’ lines are awful) and go straight to your car.
Visa Infinite Wine Country. Discounts on BC and Ontario wineries, for things like 50% off tastings, free tastings, a free glass of wine with dinner reservation, and even free shipping on wine ordered online or in the tasting room.
Passport Visa Infinite Privilege Insurance Benefits
The insurance benefits are more generous compared to a typical travel credit card.
Robust travel medical insurance. Up to $5,000,000 CAD and 31 days for those age 65 and younger and 10 days for those older than age 65. Normally, many cards only offer 3 days for individuals who are over age 65.
Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance. $2500 per person.
Flight delay insurance.
Lost baggage and delayed baggage insurance. It also includes damaged baggage insurance which is not very commonly seen.
Rental car collision and damage insurance. Covers up to MRSP car worth $85,000.
Hotel burglary insurance and Mobile Device insurance. Up to $2500 and $1000 respectively.
Purchase security and extended warranty.
Redeeming Scene+ Reward Points
The best part of this credit card is the ease in redeeming the Scene+ Rewards points. There was a recent overhaul in the past few years and you don’t have to ONLY redeem your Scene+ points for Cineplex movies anymore.
You can book your Scene+ Travel rewards and it is powered by Expedia. Points can be redeemed fully or partially for flights, car rentals, and hotels.
You can apply your Scene+ points for travel. Just click “Apply Points to Travel” option to redeem points within 12 months from date of travel purchase on your Passport Visa Infinite credit card. This way you have the flexibility to book your own travel AND you have to flexibility to book earlier and collect your points later to offset your travel cost!
Passport Visa Infinite Privilege Annual Fee
The annual fee for the Scotiabank Passport Privilege Visa is high which is $599.
However, you can get a $150 deduction from the annual fee if you have an Ultimate Chequing account, which brings it down to $449.
In addition, if you factor in the $250 travel credit, it brings the annual fee down to $199 (and the first year bonus that you could get ranges from $300 worth in Scene+ points to $600 worth in Scene+ points if you spend $20,000 in the first year).
Therefore, even if you choose the lower effort option of $300 back in Scene points, you have a net positive of $101 in the first year and you get 10 lounge passes and enhanced travel medical insurance if you are older than 65.
Annual Income Requirements
The annual income requirements for this high status card is also high, it is $150,000 (or a household income of $200,000).
The alternative eligible requirement is at least $400,000 in assets under management if you don’t meet the income requirement.
This is a good option for retirees who have more than $400,000 in assets under management and less than $150,000 in annual income (and need the free travel medical insurance associated with this card).
Genymoney.ca’s Verdict
I used to not be into credit cards that pay an annual fee (very vehemently against them actually), but I have since changed my tune. Now I do the math and figure out the benefits of the card (which are a lot- the 10 lounge passes are great especially when you are going through a number of airports on a multi city trip).
Most other credit cards that offer free lounge passes only offer about 4 passes. That’s not a lot especially if you are going through a number of cities, or if you are traveling with others that would benefit from lounge access.
Also, if you are a senior (over 65) and going on a longer trip, the 10 day travel medical insurance is quite valuable. Normally over age 65 the travel insurance is about 3 days. Here are some other credit cards for seniors that offer travel insurance.
